A monolith dismantled to absorb transaction peaks on a GCP architecture. Engineering brought back in house and aligned with the product roadmap.

01 Challenges and context

Context and strategic stakes

A European scale-up, central to the electric vehicle charging station ecosystem, suffered from a monolithic architecture severely hindering its ability to absorb massive transactional peaks. Furthermore, the company was chronically dependent on an external provider for its IT operations, enduring slow and partially manual deployment cycles. The critical challenge for management was to internalize technological mastery (Insourcing), industrialize CI/CD processes, and ensure the IT department could keep pace with the product roadmap's demanding time-to-market.

Approach and methodology

The intervention began with a comprehensive assessment of the monolithic application and its limiting dependencies. We evaluated testing practices and the shortcomings of the outsourcing model. In response, our architects designed a modular Cloud-Native target infrastructure on Google Cloud, leveraging elastic and managed components (Google Kubernetes Engine, Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL). We defined standard Infrastructure as Code (IaC) models and Golden Images to ensure environment security and reproducibility.
